A large portion of the CPU tasks are AVX512 tasks. AMD CPUs that support AVX512 generally have correct runtimes.

(I've seen this with my Genoa 192-core processor). And yes, there are "annoying gaps" in receiving tasks during the sprint.

These gaps are filled with other short-running tasks, and the sprint is paused again as needed.

For me, it's less stressful; I even managed to complete Rosetta@Home for the marathon. :D

About 90% of the cars are still in the box, waiting for fuel to have a chance to take part.
Wouldn't this be a reason to cancel the sprint?

The only work I can contribute are the WUs from 1-3 weeks ago that are still in pending.

If the project is not willing to be part of the sprint or even sabotaging in some kind of way, it should not be selected.

At the end of the day, everybody is dealt the same cards. I choose to mitigate the problem by using a lot of lower power computers with a lot of threads, it pays well on sprints like this one but other sprints (eg primegrid) I lose out big time. Everybody chooses their own strategy, some you win, some you lose.

If this would not be called sprint but obstacle race, I don't see a big problem.

At least my Nvidia GPU got some work.

Hi Tim and everyone,

I see mostly the problem of BOINC scheduler giving up asking tasks after a couple of tries. That's far not the optimal behaviour dealing with Asteroids server )

For me that means inability to add new machines quickly as they could remain idle for a half a day when unattended. It's quite a crucial delay considering sprint timeframe. Linux machines are somehow suffering even more from this.

I don't expect any changes for this project. I'm only being frustrated to forget how to deal with it when the time comes :D

To avoid such frustrations in future Tim could make a small notice in case of Asteroids selections. For example: "Warning! A work unit distribution problems are possible. Please try to start all your hosts within 20 minutes after start of a sprint with 1-2 days bunker and to control them until first batches of tasks are received."

Considering race cancellation I suppose we should use a separate topic with a poll in it. Personally, I still cannot decide on it :?

My mac always have the transient HTTP error, I tried to reset, and I decided to detach it (from SAM) : now it's impossible to attach it again, transient HTTP error.

I have a small linux VPS host that gets tasks and seems to be working fine.

About F1 GP being cancelled because of the Iran war / Gulf impact : I don't think we should cancel anything and keep them as support against anti-boinc tyranny.

Hi all

Apologies for my lack of response to the various messages posted.

I've been pretty busy at work so, sadly, I had to spend more time on doing things that earn me money

Some have suggested having a poll, so I'll set one up and we can see what the general consensus is.

Poll is now live:

viewtopic.php?t=432

Personally, I'm happy to carry on with the timetable as scheduled, as it doesn't really matter if we are totally aligned with the F1 race schedule or not...as ultimately, one of the ideas of FB is to generate credits for worthy projects by everyone pulling together at the same time, and hence our combined efforts can be a significant boost to projects that need all the assistance they can get.

And let's be honest - what else are you (and your hosts) going to be doing if you are *not* crunching for these two weekends...

regards
Tim

Hi Tim,

just want to mention another 'very special' sprint - the current one.
All points counted for the moment are coming from a huge validation backlog and tasks made weeks ago.
There may be no points at all for tasks completed within a sprint timeframe.

The sprint project validator are racing with us. Another type of fun :D

It could be the very last sprint for this project as it comes to an end. So, let's see how it goes.

P.S. The validation backlog reduced from ~120k to ~96k results during last day but we have surely added some more.
